Preparations have begun for the
incredible journey that lies ahead, and with that comes the setting up
of this blog – my travel blog. During my nine months away with Class
Afloat, I will be posting updates as well as photos.
But
first off, a bit about Class Afloat. We will be sailing and living
aboard the Sorlandet. It is a Norwegian tall ship, and the oldest
full-rigged ship in the world (built in 1927).
The Sorlandet |
Though it is a
Norwegian ship, we will be starting off in Turkey because the ship is
currently there undergoing restoration (exciting, I can't wait to see
it!). Here is the itinerary for the year:

Looks fantastic Laura! My Best Wishes for an exciting journey for you and your friends! It looks like you cross the Atlantic twice. While I recognize all of the names of the places you will go to(except Tristan da Cunha) a few jump out at me:
ReplyDelete- Fernando da Noronha which I have not yet been to but I have heard that it is an amazing spot - paradise for nature lovers;
- Rio is one of the world's truly great cities and I loved it! Even though it is very touristy it is worth going up to the Big Jesus staue - an incredible view - breathtaking, and of course check out the beaches at Ipanema; and
- Lunenburg, Nova Scotia - after all of the other places which you will have seen this will seem like a very small place but it will also look VERY clean compared to some of the other places which you will see. It is a gorgeous little seaside village - a great place to end your journey and re-unite with your family!
Enjoy it all Laura! I will follow your blog from time to time so i look forward to lots of great photos!

Laura, it sounds like the year will be an amazing adventure!! I'm so looking forward to following your travels!
ReplyDeleteHappy Sailing og god tur (and good trip)!

Being the naturally curious person I am I had to find out about Tristan da Cunha. It sounds......... - remote! When you arrive there I think that it will a bigger event for the citizens than it will be for you world travellers!!

I gather it still isn't on your list of top 10 destinations Mike? Also being a curious person, I wondered who Tristan da Cunha was... Portuguese explorer and naval commander, who named the island after himself! Ironically, the island belongs to UK and British Pound is their currency. When Sorlandet and its crew arrive, the population of the island will increase by 30%!
